On 13th September we celebrated what would have been Roald Dahl's 100th birthday.
Our pupils enjoyed seeing their favourite characters come to life. From Mr and Mrs Twit to Matilda and the BFG, the characters who have provided so much joy were celebrated through a variety of activities inspired by Dahl’s amazing imagination. Children created dreams in jars, picked worms from spaghetti, made BFG ears, Mr Twit’s beards, Fantastic Mr Fox’s tails, George’s marvellous medicine and Charlie’s golden tickets; they wrote biographies about Dahl and older children read their favourite extracts from his classic stories to the younger boys and girls. We even published our own contributions to Dahl’s Gobblefunk Dictionary.
Gozeltumpers - (gobstoppers) by Bebe
Troggle quiffling (trifle) by Archie
Swamp wumps (wellies) by Sienna
There was no need for gozeltumpers at the party; the children ate enough troggle quiffling to fill a hundred swamp wumps.
We are sure that Roald Dahl himself would think these new words have quite a ring to them and deserve a rightful place in his lexicon.
